Black Helterline is currently seeking a Bankruptcy Paralegal.

BANKRUPTCY PARALEGAL

Black Helterline, LLP is seeking an experienced bankruptcy paralegal to join our team in Portland, Oregon.  This position works under the direction of the firm’s attorneys to assist in the delivery of legal services to its clients. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources. 

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

  • Draft, revise and finalize various forms and documents.
  • File documents and forms with appropriate courts/agencies.
  • Identify and analyze complex issues and recommend and implement solutions.
  • Maintain status reports of priorities and upcoming actions needed on each case.
  • Coordinate, manage and follow through on projects, including following up with supervising attorneys to ensure that tasks are completed.
  • Interact with clients in person and by email or phone, as necessary.
  • Track and manage deadlines.  Follow docketing procedures to ensure dates are docketed.

Specific Job Skills

  • Have an in-depth knowledge of legal terminology, legal forms and documents, legal practices and procedures and legal docketing/calendaring rules.
  • Have extensive experience efiling in the bankruptcy courts.
  • Experience managing bankruptcy matters including Chapter 11 cases.
  • Ability to perform detailed work accurately, thoroughly, and consistently.
  • Skilled in organizing and prioritizing numerous tasks and completing them under time constraints.
  • Capable of conveying thoughts and expressing ideas using clear verbal and written communication.
  • Possess strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive materials.
  • Skilled at proofreading material for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors.
  • Possess proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) and working knowledge of a document management system (ProLaw preferred).
  • Have a record of reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.
  • Possess a team-oriented mindset and strong work ethic.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate, or equivalent work experience, preferred. 
  • Five to seven years of prior paralegal or legal assistant experience required.

Normal Work Hours

This is a hybrid position, is non-exempt, and eligible for overtime compensation.  Regular office hours are 8:00 – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The ability to work longer hours is essential during peak workload periods, during fast-moving transactions or in order to communicate with parties in different time zones.
