IN MEMORIAM

On September 7, 2024 our law partner and dear friend Colin Andries passed away from lymphoma. True to form, Colin’s strength and spirit allowed him to outlive medicine’s most optimistic projections.

He joined the firm in 2019 and became a partner in 2022. Before joining Black Helterline, Colin was an associate in Big Law and also worked as a solo practitioner. He tried both civil and criminal cases but he was so much more than just a lawyer: he was a natty dresser, a bon vivant, and, in fact, was so many things to so many people that any list of his better qualities would either be incomplete or infinite.

Colin’s legal expertise pushed us to be better lawyers, but this was far from his most important contribution – his energy, sense of humor, and genuine kindness toward everyone had the biggest impact. While true that he was an exceptional lawyer and a great contributor to the firm’s professional successes, it was how he improved our lives that we will remember most.

Colin would not want us to dwell on the pain of losing him. He would tell us to look to the future with optimism, and look back fondly at the precious, if far too few, years we had with him. To honor him, we will endeavor to do so every day.

We will smile when we think of his infectious laugh, or his booming voice filling the office regardless of whether he was chatting down the hall or behind closed doors. We will beam with pride remembering his accomplishments, his eagerness to jump into any case no matter how big or how small, and how his willingness to be on a team – and specifically our team – made our professional and personal lives all the better. Though we dearly miss him, we are grateful for our time with Colin and take comfort in knowing that he was grateful for that time as well. He is loved, he is missed, and he will be remembered.
